Story That Didn't Make the National News

Explosion at Kammer-Mitchell Plant.<br /><br />Workers were coating stack liners in the new stack which is part of the plants new Scrubber Project, when an explosion occured. Three workers doing the coating had to be rescued by helo from the top of the stack. A fourth worker is still missing and presumed dead.<br /><br />Rescue teams are still assesing damage in order to be able to go into the stack and safely look for the fourth worker.<br /><br />The missing worker leaves a pregnant widow and two children behind.<br /><br />My friend who still works at the Power Plant I retired from said he talked to one guy who was there. The fellow said flames were shooting out the breech openings and out the top of the stack. It's a wonder the three workers rescued made it out alive.

It did make the national news, I heard it last night on TV, dont know what channel, Dont believe it said anyone was killed.

Thats some bad stuff. I'm surprised with everything that goes on at a power plant that there is not more accidents.<br /><br />My sisters ex worked at the Gavin Plant and gave me a tour. It was an awesom experience. I got a chuckle on how they blast away the built up slag using shotguns. <br /><br />Some prayers and thoughts for those injured and to the family of the lost one. Very sad indeed.

I usually listen to ABC news...wasn't there. Maybe NBC or CBS......course I could have missed it too. Local stations are doing round the clock coverage. Really teaks my melon. The local stations take a terrible tragedy like this and try to "out scoop" the other station.<br /><br />They give you the " We talk to the widow....a story you'll ONLY hear on our station ".<br /><br />Then the other station says " We talked to the rescue pilot....a story you will hear ONLY on our station ".<br /><br />Wish they could hear themselves sometimes....

Same way out here in the booneys, We gona get the !st coverage of brakeing news, sometimes they are downright rude and disrespectfull. I think CBS is what I was watching because thats the station I Usually go to for local weather.

I thought it interesting that a Maryland state rescue helicopter was used. I guess that was the right tool & person for the job, though. A nighttime, flame throwing, 100 foot high stack rescue? That's the stuff of TV movies.<br />Sure does suck that someone died.<br /><br />By-thw-way, I didn't see it on the news. I read about it in the East Liverpool Review, online.
