Hey all,

I'm just fininshing up adding new storage space under my gunnels. I think the new structure and upholstery turned out pretty well, and I'm trying to decide on material to line the INSIDE of the new storage space with. I don't want to use the same material I redid my floor with (Nautolex), because I don't think it'll offer enough protection from things just "thrown" into the storage space.

I'm leaning toward a dark colored marine carpet in there....any thoughts?

http://www.shareaproject.com/projectThumbs.php?p=24

I'd appreciate any suggestions or feedback.

Thanks!

I have been kicking this idea around in my head to use in my storage compartments.. the material they sell at walmart to lay under your sleeping bag.. it does not soak up water.. you can glue it with spray adheasive.. the only downer is that it is pretty thick .. most of it I have seen is a nice blue color around 1/2 inch thick or a little more

I'd use the Nautolex in the gunwale storage compartments. Mine is 31 years old and inspite of the color being out of date, it has warn well with skiis and all manner of things thrown in there.

I have plenty of the nautolex left over from redoing my floor, which should look nice. My concern is that the back of the "compartment" is the actual hull. Not that I expect something to be tossed in there so hard that it'll puncture, but I'd rather be sure.

Some kind of foam under the nautolex is definitely an idea worth looking into.

Re: storage lining material?

Davaugust how about using the spray-on truck bed liners. I have used this in several places on the floor where I have made repairs and needed to cover it up and still look decent. NAPA has a product available in aerosol cans in several colors like white black red blue etc. So far it has stood up to heavy traffic and abrasion as well as gasoline spills etc. Just spray it on (clean surface) till you get the thickness you want. Nice thing about it is that it is easy to touch up if it does get damaged. Just a thought.
