On may way home from work this Sunday morning I had to stop at every single stoplight in town.

Why can't the city planners or traffic engineers set these #&%* lights to at least be synchronized so you can at least go the speed limit and hit them on green? Or have the main street flash yellow and the side streets flash red.

This is at 6:45 AM on a Sunday morning and I sat at every red light like a moron with no other vehicles in sight.

My "city" doesn't even have a caution light. This is a town I have to drive thru to get home. About 10 lights in 12 blocks!!!!!

City planners are politicians= sick people!
They played the the same games here in the state of Washington.... to get a new gas tax passed..
This doesn't come from me but from city workers who called in to local talk shows. They were told to re-program the traffice lights

Most traffic lights have a JB detector in them, forcing them red as JB approaches.

Seems they may be testing a Tyme2fish detector.

T2F, Yep, its that way in my town too. I think it is to help keep the brake/muffler shops in business. The city has said they have spent thousands on studies trying to get things sync'd.

After lots of time going through town trying different routes. I have a few where I don't sit at the lights. It is by far longer in distance, but quicker since there is no stopping at any lights.

I like the lights that have the transducers in the road that detects a vehicle. They suck when your on a bike, but if you know where to stop at on them there is no problem.

Just keep your road rage under control T2F! ;)

They pay traffic engineers good money to set up the traffic lights anywhere they use them. If the lights don't make you stop, then they are a waste of good money. Timing them or setting them up to force a stop 100% of the time is just another way your government makes sure your tax money does not go to waste. You wanna make sure you get your money's worth, don't you?

;)

Around the area where I live there are plenty of traffic lights and they are set up with electro magnetic sensor wires that activate the switches. Each light has a constant green for the dominant road, but when you come close to the light from a side street, you automatically trigger the cycle and the light will turn green. It is a beautiful thing.

A lot of our lights have that too......there are a couple of bad stretches with lots of lights, but generally speaking they are timed fairly well around here.........yeah sometimes you hit a bunch of red, but thats the luck of the draw.

That depends on your point of view. I have seen many times where one stinking car causes forty or fifty other cars to stop. That represents a lot of wasted fuel and a lot of wasted time.

I think the basic idea is good, but they could make the system just a bit smarter so that the scenario I've mentioned doesn't repeat needlessly.

Come to Whitt.

You can drive 20 miles to the WalMart in Miserable Wells without any traffic lights. There are, however, 3 Stop signs.

There are many traffic lights in Weatherford, however, and they all have JB detectors. Though there are many more shopping options in Weatherford, that's why I shop Miserable Wells.

I think I may have driven right through Whitt once, JB. Trouble is, I have the habit of blinking periodically. ;)

Weatherford can be a busy little town at times. Nice place, though.

I fear that intersections without traffic signals are an endangered species anymore. And it is rare to drive anywhere that I need to go in this area without some nitwit behind me that has to go 80, and another one in front of me who has to go 40. Ggrrrrrrr!!!

Re: %%$#@) Stoplights!!!

Where is Algore when you need him most. You'd think with all those evil internal combustion engines running overtime at those stop lites, he'd be up in arms. Oh well, I always said that radical Dems were all about appearances over substance. :p

On the serious side, one of my pet pieves are the left hand turn lights. More often than not I wait for them to turn green with absolutely no oncoming traffic. The powers that be could control these lights anyway they see fit. But there is no real attempt to do anything about them.

I think I'll run for local office on a 'fix the stop lites' platform.
