Stolen Evingrude controller parts.

I have a 1977 85 hp Evinrude 85793 S. Someone broke into the storage place, popped open the control box, and took some gears out. I was told that they no longer make these gears, and that is why they probably took them. Is this correct? While looking on Ebay I noticed several control boxes that may work. What should I be looking for on these boxes to make sure it is the correct box?

Check out some of the "Salvage Yards" listed here in the Top Secret File. Hopefully it'll save you some money. Just about any "name brand" controller will do the job for you (but, I would shoot for an OMC control, if you have a choice).

Thanks for the reply. I was going to trade the boat for a 4 wheeler, but I think I am gonna keep it and do some Striper fishing this Winter, then sell it in the Summer. It will keep me from having to Winterize my skiboat every time I fish this Winter.
