They can help get you on plane quicker.
The have 5 adjustment holes.
You can adjust them so they are up higher and then see if it planes quick enough for you.

Those look like Nauticus Smart Tabs SX. Lots of info on the Nauticus web site:

I have those on my boat and they help with a variety of problems, including porpoising, chine walking, and getting on plane quicker (and at lower speed). Unless the previous owner of your boat just liked how the Smart Tabs look, I suspect they were added to deal with one of those issues.

Hard to exactly tell but looks like a strange install. It looks like the gas spring is mounted on a sponson that protrudes outward. The spring should be mounted on the same plane as the tab. Maybe it could work with the right planning.

Sometimes you don't have much of a choice... I had to mount mine with the pistons attached to bumpouts on the back of the transom. I checked with Nauticus customer support (which is excellent, by the way) and they said that as long as the hinges weren't binding, it was OK.

The Nauticus site states, "...and stabilizer system that automatically adjusts to the sea conditions." That would imply they are spring loaded. I would call them to see if they think the springs are ceased.

Is your stingray the Z hull? I'm surprised you would need them on a Z hull boat they typically plane off in just a few seconds without them... What year boat and what engine are you running? Which outdrive,

Plane off for sure, but the Zplane is noted for porpoising. That's why they had a trim tab option.

I guess I haven't experienced it in mine. Or at least I don't think so what exactly is propoising?

If your talking about the bouncing up and down a bit just play with the trim mine stays on trim in calm water. Now any waves over 1' forget it... if tabs fix thats I'll buy a set but I just figured it was the hull and not fixable.

Maybe I'm alone in this but I start into my routine trimmed all the way down then I trim up as needed... idk if it starts bouncing I trim back down. Never had any issues in my z hull other then in waves 1' and then I can adjust at 2' it's very uncomfortable ride.

Yes, bouncing up and down as you trim out. The problem is that when you trim out to get the hull to ride the way you want it to, then it porpoises. So, you are almost always running trimmed in with most of the hull still in the water.

My Stingray acted just like that, so I added fixed but manually adjustable trim tabs. Then, I was able to trim out and pick up an added 4 mph.

If you are happy with the way your boat performs, no need to do anything.

hmm I may consider this, I dont mind the way it performs other then in waves its not the easiest boat to run.

The advantage of tabs in MY boat was to allow me to trim UP in calm water and gain speed without porpoising. When the waves get big, you would normally want to trim IN (and of course slow down) so improve the ride.

Yours is just a little boat, so naturally it won't have a smooth ride. If you want an easy boat you need a lot bigger one.

I always felt that my Stingray was adequate for my family and conditions. We had her for 35 years so that says it all. But I do realize that Stingrays are light and meant for speed, and the ride is not as good as a bigger heavier boat. But then again they don't cost as much as a Cobalt.

Our 19' Stingray WAS a lake Erie boat. Of course we used our 15 foot woodie there as well. It all takes practice.
