That's what I've been told they're called. Baby perch we catch right off our dock and you can't kill 'em. They stay alive forever. The shiners die really quick so its nice to have something that won't.

4 salt, we used to go to Catalina all the time
when I lived in Cali, at night with a bright light
and small hooks, we would catch smelt/hering and
use them for live/dead bait. one night we caught
2 lobsters and 2 morey eels over 6' long...ewww!
:)

Spring time 8 to 12" suckers and its killn to agree with Mellowyellow. I normally will let it free lance around and hope some female gator will take a likn to its slim shape and take a bite.

Piggy Perch Ladyfish???? I should have known you would come up with a female version of the perch. Remember she was the one that said my gator lures would make nice ear hangers..

Ya we use a lot of live bait here also. I think live bait is more widley used than believed due to tournements. There are no sponsers for live bait.

Those of you who are not familiar with piggy perch there is imense satisfaction in using them for bait. They are the bait stealingist little sonofaguns you ever wanna meet. It feels real good to stick a hook in them and turn the tables so to speak. I dont know how they can take a shrimp off the hook only leaving the skull behind, not only that but they lick it clean and always avoid the hook.Grrrr...

Does it count if you dangle a few toes in the water in musky country?

Or would that be considered chumming?

I can see trhe day when annimal rights group will lobby for a ban on using live bait- they'll probably use the ''fair chase'' rules....laugh if you want but don't say it can't happen either. The protest industry- because that's what it is, needs new ''issues'' to keep the donation money coming in
