start with a trolling motor.
Trolling motors can side mount so that top of motor becomes an arm rest.
Trolling motor batteries can go up front so that canoe doesn't get blown around with every little breeze of wind.
Guy at bass pro said 60Lbs thrust = 1HP
Bass pro had a 30Lb minn kota for $100 and it does a great job of pushing the canoe around with a $40 wall mart deep cycle battery. They tried to confuse me with numbers at bass pro and sell me into a a $200 super duper battery. The wal mart lasts all day for me.
I'm betting Columbus used that thing as a kicker on the Santa Maria![]()
