Whoops! Guess I'll have to start reading from the bottom up....I didn't see your previous post. Still need some more specific details, i.e., compression, spark to #1 & #4, etc.
Backlash

Re: still have a miss

Hey again Capt,
Let's try to determine just where the problem is. First of all, you mentioned you're losing #1 & #4. How did you determine that? You also said you were out for about 6 hours before the miss started. Were you cruising or trolling during most of that time? Any indication of overheating? What I would do first is remove all the spark plugs (keeping track of which cylinders they came out of), diable the ignition system & run a compression test. Look at the spark plugs & note their condition (carbon fouled, clean, burned, etc.) Record your findings & get back to us with the results. We'll go from there. :)
Backlash

Re: still have a miss

Hey Capt,
I'd switch the coils out & see if the miss moves. Sounds like you've changed just about all the rest of the ignition. If the miss moves, it has to be the coil for that cylinder. :)
Backlash

Yes,What Backlash said. Switch-out the coils, and see if the miss moves.
If it doesn't take the plugs out and make sure the missing plug is wet with fuel. If dry, you may have a fouled or p-lugged carb.
I really hope it isn't a carb, after runnin all that time without lubrication, damage is enevitable to #1 + #4 .
Compression test may reveal other nasties, like "Holy Piston Syndrome" or "Hemorage of the Head gasket".
BTW,GREAT Shrimpin expedition!! When's dinner??
Just read other post,Merc115HP, Inline 6...
Distributerless ignition. Week points were switchboxes and stators. Check the wires from the stator also, for heat damage, like they were burnt in two,as they may have burnt in two.If so, they can be soldered back, and insulated with heatshrink.
Well, allrighty then...
Zero spark,#1 #4, huh?
Does the flywheel got all it's magnets?
Check it at night,no moon, and look for premature arcing to ground (You'll be able to see,and matbee even hear this).
That's an extremely hot ignition, and can jump an inch in free air. I guess that's why they call it "Thunderbolt" ignition.
The spark can escape out of the CD or plug wire like an open beer held upside down (sniff sniff, terible sight).
After this, it's time to backtrack,as your ignitiuon is complete.

Re: still have a miss

capt charley, we need some answers to be able to continue.

Backlash:
"...& run a compression test. Look at the spark plugs & note their condition (carbon fouled, clean, burned, etc.) Record your findings & get back to us with the results."

12Footer:
"...take the plugs out and make sure the missing plug is wet with fuel. If dry, you may have a fouled or p-lugged carb."

It seems to be plugged carbs or stucked floats or float valves. Your answers will guide us.
A compression check is step number one. If #1 and #4 is gone it does'nt really matter why. But if compression is gone (I hope not) it was probably because of lack of fuel and oil.

Engines can't talk but spark plugs do.
:D

Good luck!

/Bear

Re: still have a miss

The trigger and timer are the same. This engine has 1 stator, 1 timer/trigger, and 2 powerpacks right? Did you replace both powerpacks? The timer has 3 coils, 1 coil fires 2 cylinders, sound like trigger/timer bad, or loose /broken wires. Would help to have serial number to id engine, 2 types of ignition for this engine.
