Stiff Steering

I recently purchased a boat with a 1989 Yamaha 140HP 2 Stroke. The steering was not up to scratch so I replaced the cable and helm unit but the steering is still extremly stiff. I have detached the cable from the motor and it is fine so I believe the problem is in the pivot.

Can any one point me in the right direction in fixing this. Is it a matter of just pumping in heaps of new grease in an effort to push the old grease out or is it a bit more serious and I will have to pull it apart to clean it out?

Re: Stiff Steering

Heaps of grease and work the motor back & forward by hand until it's completely free before you reconnect it.
Then just keep the grease up to it.
Get a few mates, a slab & make it a competition.
