how am i gonna throw a rod? Wouldnt the cam just burn up or the lifter , then id hear the popping sound again, right? I already no I need a new engine. Just doing this for a couple trial runs. I let it run on the muffs for about 5-10minutes at 2000rpms after the oil change and filter btw. The rocker is opening and closing the valve, like i thought, just dont know how long I got,, Its a time bomb thats all, hopefully I'll have my new motor by then to replace it with.

thanks,

86bayliner

The way you would throw a rod is if you dont get the metal from the worn lifter out of the oil system. Read up a few posts. One of the guys did not get it all out and the metal went through the bypass valve of the filter and into the bearings and bang. If you change the oil and filter a couple of times you may get to last the rest of the season and then do the swap in the off season.

If you got a big magnet?? Stick it to the bottom of the oil pan next to the drain bolt. Pull it off just before you pull the plug for a oil change. Old racing trick. I think Nascar goes as far to use magnetic oil pans just for that.

Hey I thought most drain plugs were supposed to be like a magnet, or maybe thats on the transmission of explorer, um , well thanks anyway for all the helpful information

86bayliner
