Re: sticky resin

Yea, use a heat gun carefully, don't scorch anything. A heater maybe, some heat lights, get the temp up. In desperate cases I've even brushed catalyst onto the surface and actually have gotten results but it's not the recommended way to go. Good luck. Be very careful with catalyst. It's fatal to the eyeballs. Eye protection.

What was the approx ratio of hardener to resin mix?

Doesn't covering it with plastic also help by cutting it off from oxygen?

Thanks for the tip on the catalyst I'd had no idea still learning

Yep that's about .025% sooooo that's Prolly gunna be a problem. Not sure even the heat will allow it to set up. It might but don't be surprised if it doesn't. Even if it does it will be a very weak mix. What were you laminating???

A stringer. Can I try scraping it off or wiping it off or going over with another coat

Re: sticky resin

That's what I would do. I'd get a Stiff blade scraper and remove it. I would recommend you use the metric system to mix your resin and always stay between .075 and 1.5% MEKP and Resin ratio. This will ensure a proper mix.

Re: sticky resin

Did you just coat it with resin, or did you put glass on it too? If all you did was put resin on it, just continue on with the rest of the laminate.

Re: sticky resin

Scrape it off and re-do. It will eventually cure but it might take 10 years. Don't paint catalyst on it, That might cure a millimeter on the top but the rest will not cure and you don't want raw catalyst anywhere.

"always stay between .075 and 1.5% MEKP and Resin ratio"

Question - Wouldn't that depend on what you are using? There is 1:1, 2:1, and 3:1 mixes.

Also - Is there harm in using more hardener in your mix than recommended?

Poly resin is not 1:1, 2:1, or 3:1 those are for epoxy resins. Poly resins are 1.5% MEKP to Resin so a Gallon of Resin would be 1.5% of a gallon of hardener. Pretty much like a tablespoon.
