Sticky Carb

Mercruiser MCM 260 5.7 1980. I cannot get the carb to idle down past 1100 RPM unless I manually pull on the linkage. Then when I let go it goes right back to 1100 RPM. It is a Rochester Quadrajet

You need to adjust your cable. It should be long enough to push the butterfly valve closed slightly when idling

The cable is slack. Still have the problem.

Ayuh,.... Extend the cable, there should be just enough tension to hold the linkage against the idle adjustment screw,.....

The cable needed some lube up by the throttle handle where it had a slight bind. Works good now. Thank You
