Yeah, I was thinking that. Is the harbor freight ujoint clamp good for this job?

Probably but I've never used one.
I usually lay the drive on it's side and use a hammer and sockets to drive them out.
If it's something I can get in a vise then I use the vise and sockets to press them out.

I prefer a cheapie ball joint press to a hammer. Less chance of damaging needles or yokes.

Thanks, I just measure the space that is not going in that's 2.5 inches, therefore I think the spline is going in, bit is stopping. Midway. As the spline is about 3 inches long

Just checked the measurements it is 8.5 inches from the gimbal to the edge. The gimbal is install correctly

Just came back from HF I bought the clamps for ujoint. will try to take the yoke off the sterndrive tomorrow to try it alone

Took the yoke out and did not enter the coupler. So I guess I messed up the coupler installing the gimbal. Any idea of how to change the coupler without removing the engine? If not how much would that work be to be done by a mechanic?

Ayuh,..... Have you taken a flashlight, 'n peered in through the gimbal bearin', at the coupler,..??
Not sayin' ya didn't, but you'd have to try pretty darn hard, to damage the coupler that much,.....

You need a minimum of 'bout 12 to 24" of space, behind the flywheel to possibly change the coupler,.....
Whether that can be accomplished in the boat, is yer call,.....

I'd go back to the alignment process 1st,.....

I feel so damn stupid, I hit it like even after the solid sound when it stops. I put my finger between the gimbal and the mount and felt a gap and continue hammering away thinking that I needed to close the gap. My brother in law is going to help me to see if it is a motor aligment as last resort. Quick question when trying to align the motor when of the side bolt is also spinning with the bottom nut. Should I clamp the bolt on the bottom with pliers to stop the bolt spinning? I hope is an aligment issue.

I did and it looks fine. Just a lot of grease, But the ridge looks OK. I even did the grease test with the aligment tool and the lines looks ok.
