Do a search. I told a guy about a 'cheap man's press' a few weeks ago.

Chris,

I found the post about the cheap man's press - all I can say is . I'm happy that it worked for him but that's not my luck. My luck is that the boat trailer would slip and destroy my gear, somehow that slip would cause a catastrophic trailer failure which would eject my boat off the trailer and through the side of my garage. I'm extremely fortunate that I have a harbor freight down the road from me and a 20% off coupon in my hand. I'm going to head over there and pick up the 12 ton standup press. Unless the 6 ton bench top A-frame press will work. Thoughts?

Personally, I'd get the 12 ton. Always more is better. 😊

Quick question. I've been going over the manual a ton over the last couple days and I came across something I'm puzzled by. Part "C" the Sleeve - I'm 100% sure I didn't remove that from my shift shaft when I replaced the O-rings and the oil seal. I guess my question is - is this part always there? Should I find a replacement for it? If so is it sold on it's own? Thank you.

my poor man's press worked pretty good! Just made sure that the trailer was square on the hydraulic jack and it wasn't wobbly or anything at all. The reason I didn't buy a hydraulic press is I don't have the room in my garage for a press.

So I've been looking everything over and getting ready to replace the bearings tomorrow. The manual shows using the bearing separator on what I assume is a press. I've looked over a ton of YouTube videos trying to find where someone has done this. I haven't found anything except auto videos and it looks as if everyone suggests using a cutting wheel to remove the majority of the bearing and then use the separator to remove the rest. Can someone walk me through the best way to remove these bearings? I would GREATLY appreciate your help!

I'm asking about removing the upper roller bearing assembly on a Alpha one Gen 2

just a thought but are you sure the o ring between the upper and lower unit was present? it goes where the small hole connects the upper and lower gear oil resevoirs.

The videos are not bad, but the key with the splitter is can it be tightened under the bottom edge of the bearing enough to get a good bite. In most cases this is not possible because was the bolts are tightened down there is not enough force to push in under the edge and separate the two.

You can try to grab the outer cage and press it off, but many times this bends the cage and it doesn't work. Even though it may not work it usually pulls the cage off and the bearings fall out. So either cut the cage or press it off, they garb the upper lip of the bearing with the splitter and then press it off
