Can someone tell me the easiest way to re-do my steering cable. It is the olde style with wires and pulleys?

Re: steering?

Juice, Replace the cable if necessary. Usually can get the stuff (used for dog runs) at Home Depot or hardware store. Make sure the pulleys and springs are firmly attached to the boat hull. Wrap the cable around the steering shaft, so that the cable goes over the top of the steering shaft, otherwise steering will be backwards.

Re: steering?

Juice, The only caution is to make sure the springs put some tension on the cable. This keeps the steering tight and keeps the motor from moving back and forth due to torque. I have also heard not to use springs on both cable ends, if you have more than 40 HP, and not to use cable and pulleys for more than 50 HP. However, I had a cable and pulley system on a runabout with 85HP, and it was not a problem!
