Steering Play

I've just purchased a 2005 180 br. It has some steering play. All of the movement comes from the connection between the cable from the rack and the power steering in the engine compartment. When turning the wheel this connection moves in and out 1/4 to 1/2 inch resulting in significant play in the steering wheel. Is this normal? Is there an adjustment to remove the play?
