Steering Issue

I just bought a 1986 Bayliner cuddy w/ 125 Force outboard and having problems with it turning to the right, not bad, just a constant pull. I have the exhaust port slid completely to the left correcting alot of the issue. After a closer inspection, I believe that the fin on the gearcase is slightly bent. Would this affect the steering? Is there anyway to straighten the fin, either by filing or heating and hammering it straight?
Thanks for any help.

Re: Steering Issue

Looking at the back of the boat. The trim fin(if pulling right) should be turned to the right.
The skeg can be bent back.I use a 3# hammer and a block of wood, depending on how bad it's bent. Post a pic.J

Not unless you plan on changing the fluid. You can do BIG damage by using too much heat.I never use heat to straighten them unless the housing is empty.
A hammer and block is all you need.Post a pic.J

Re: Steering Issue

No heat. Be careful when you start banging on the skeg as that fin is called. Bend it back a little at a time. Don't try to beat it back in one shot with a sledge.

Re: Steering Issue

Does it have power steering? I thought this was normal with just cable steering cause of prop pitch?
