Hello, I have a question about aligning my steering wheel so that the OMC label is at 9 and 3 versus now at 8 and 2. I have a piston type cable (if that's what you call it) not the clothe line type cable. Would anyone know how I can align this more. Thanks By the way, its on an Evinrude 30hp if that makes a difference.

Re: Steering alignment

If you have a rack and pinon set up just get the motor straight and take the rack lose and straighten the wheel and replace the rack.

I was searching for this very same answer... How do you loosen the rack? I looked, and did not see anything obvious. Attached is a picture that shows some of the steering mechanism. The photo was taken for the gauges, so it's not the greatest shot of the steering.

Re: Steering alignment

It may also depend on the steering wheel shaft, some are splined and some have a key way. Mine has the key way and I had to losen the cable and put it in and out a few times till it was on center. Then I had to adjust the tube at the motor to fine tune it.

Re: Steering alignment

Eric, you do not have Rack and Pinon steering. Your's is rotary.

Bob if you have R&P steering there should be some bolts holding the rack to the pinon. Remove them, straighten the wheel and replace them.

Thank you... I imagined it worked like R&P, guess I need to look up how rotary works now.
