I have a 1982 40hp merc elect start. I have no spark at plugs. I can disconnect wire at switch box blk-wht and then I have spark and motor seems to run fine. Looking at wiring diag this wire goes to stator and blk-yel from switch box goes to stator. What am I hurting when I leave the blk-wht off ar loose on switch box as motor does seem to run ok. When looked up it won't start no spark I can take it off start motor and put on loose while running and motor keeps running. Any help appreciated

can you follow the wire from the switch bo x to the stator ?<br />it sounds like the wire could be a kill switch wire or over temp shut off switch
