Hello, I was wondering if anyone might be able to tell me more about this motor, i purchased it recently, ran great a couple of days and the pullcord broke. Whild fixing it I apparently messed up the air/gas mixture i am assuming? I have the original 2-line tank. It will run for maybe 15 seconds and then die abrubtly.....
Hey Thanks! 1951 Johnson 10Hp Model Q-13....

The Top Secret file at the top of the Johnson/Evinrude forum will tell you how to reset and adjust the carb needles. As for starting, turn the throttle over to Start or Fast, choke out, pull the rope until it catches and fires/starts, let it run with choke out for a while, then choke off...pretty standard I think.

While I suppose it is possible that while removing and reinstalling the shroud, you might have disturbed the adjustments. However I seriously doubt that is the problem.

Anyhow, you have been running it in the past so you pretty much know how to start it don't you?

Connect the fuel hose and pump up the primer button on the tank to fill the carburetor.
Put shift in neutral
Put throttle on start. Tiller handle "down".
Give the primer a few squirts (It has a primer, not a choke)
Pull rope. If it starts and wants to immediatly die, give the primer another squirt of two.
If it starts and wants to die after about half a minute, pump up the tank primer again.

While running at wide open throttle on a boat, adjust the high speed knob for best performance

Slow down to idle and adjsut the slow speed knob for best idle.
