Re: starting probllems

Spark plugs should be Champion QL77JC4 plugs gapped at either .030 or .040 . One gap or the other may provide improved performance.

Compression should be approximately 100 psi and even on both cylinders. What are your readings?

Spark, with the spark plugs removed, should jump a 7/16" gap with a strong blue lightning like flame.... a real SNAP! Does it?

NOTE.... Checking the spark with the sprak plugs is a waste of time. The 7/16" gap is important.

Has the flywheel been off? If so, perhaps the flywheel key is either misaligned, sheared, or missing (Out of time).

Let us know what you find.

Re: starting probllems

DOn't use starting fluid in a 2 stroke, that is made for 4 stroke engines and has no oil in it an if you run the engine for any length of time on it will be toast.

Not going to beat Joes advice, he has done this for many years, as he said, start with new properly gapped plugs and do a compression check, no compression no start, it is like taking your pulse, it gives you a general idea of the health of the engine.

Is this engine new to you or you know it has run in the past?

As Mr Reeves. You won't get better advice than what was written there.

Does the motor sputters or tries to fire? If that so, I?m with the broken or misaligned key...
