I have 1999-90 hp fitch I can back in the water, turn key, motor turns over and starts perfect. Run engine for as long as u want runs perfect. U get it good and warmed up turn the key off and then turn it back on to start the engine and the starter pops up engages flywheel for a split second then starter pops back down. It will continue to do this until u let it sit and cool down for 30to45minutes then turn the key and it will turn over like it is suppose to and start up and run perfect but u get it warm again and the same thing over again. This motor starts like and optimax it turns over a few times before it starts. I put muffs on it and run it at home till it got warmed up turn key off and did same thing. So while it was warm I disconected + battery lead and run a jumper to the sylinoid and touched it to it and starter poped up and turned motor over perfect. That tells me the starter and bendex and sylinoid R ok.I replaced + battery cable and turn key, starter pops up engages flywheel for a split second and pops back down. Its like it fires premature and allows flywheel to spin fast enough to let starter release.HELP

if you jumped the solenoid..then it could still be the problem..if it started fine with the solenoid jumped and would not start using the key/solenoid..then I am suspecting the solenoid..I have heard of them messing up while hot before. But usually they cause the starter to drag..A new solenoid is cheap enough and never hurts to have an extra one laying around...so its worth a shot..
