Hi All, I have a strange problem, while starting the engine (5.7 Volvo I/O Carb) it will run for a second then stop. If I keep the key held in the "Start" position it will continue to run. As soon as I let it go back to the "on" position it stops. I have replaced the ignition switch but don't know what to try next.

Re: Starting Problem

You will have much better luck posting the issue in the Mercruiser and I/O forum. The ballast resistor is open, the connection to the coil is bad, or the starter solenoid is bad. The ballast resistor is bypassed by the solenoid when the engine is being cranked. When you let go of the key the ballast resistor is switched into the circuit to the coil to drop the voltage to avoid overheating the coil.
