I have a '98 merc 3.0 I/O.

i tried to start it after sitting for about 6 weeks. it slowly tried to crank, but no luck. I check my battery and alternator - good.

When i put the alternator back in, i failed to turn the battery off and caused a spark. Once I hooked it back up - no cranking or clicking. i had one fuse blow, which I replace, but still no luck. I have read several post and tired several things, but am confused more now.

When testing the key switch, I got no lights, but when I put a jumper wire from the pos. battery terminal on the front of the starter to the slave solinoid, it tries to crank. I tapped the solinoid a little, and it was even closer to cranking. If I move the jumper wire to the pos. terminal on the solinoid from the battery cable, it does not work.

Any suggestions? Thanks

Ayuh,... You may have a little square fuse where the battery wire attaches to the starter...
If so, it's Blown...

Re: Starting Assistance

is it the one where the battery (lg hole) is on one end and the wiring to the solinoid (small hole) is on the other end? I thought that was just for utilizing the 2 diffrent gauge wires. do you know what it is called?

thanks for your help
