Starter won't turn

Just got back from a boating trip whereas on the 2nd day I forgot to put the plug in! Boating 101 , i know. Pump the water out, waited about 1/2 hour then fired up right away and ran great. Next day we took it out again and ran all day long. The following day we drove 3 hours home and began to clean everything up. However the starter would not turn over. It gives me one click when turning the key and that's it. Battery is at 12.8V, all other electrical working fine. I have a 1993 Mercruiser 4.3LX. Wondering if this would be the starter, looks as if it could be the original one in there. Oil is fine and clean. I would not think the motor is seized since and ran it for another 2 days. Thanks for any help!

If the starter got submersed; time for it to be re-built.

Ayuh,........... It Could be as simple as removing, Cleaning,+ reinstalling the Starter's Wiring,.........
But,.........
If the Starter took a Swim,......... I'd throw a New 1 on..........

Could be the slave solenoid, replace that first, very cheap and easy, mine had the same problem and it turns over every time now.

I would check all the connections. Even a 1/10th of an ohm resistance at 50 amp start current is a 5 Volt drop.

Just had the same thing happen and it was the starter. Ran for several days and then no more turning over.

Try and turn the engine over by putting a socket onto the crankshaft. If it turns easily, then it is your starter, if not then then the problem is elsewhere.

I removed the starter last night and took it down to the local auto store to have it tested. Turns out it is a failed starter! *sigh*. Better than a seized engine! Thanks for the help guys and gals!
