Can you feel any resistance when you pull the rope out or will it rewind with some help? Many times it's just the grease in around the recoil spring that gets hard and makes the spring hard to recoil. Shoot some WD-40 around the spring and see if it will losen up. May have to help it some.

some times a couple of good thumps on the top will free them up.

with the cover off I CAN REWIND IT BT MANUALLY TURNING GEAR TILL IT all gets re wound I think i pulled rope to far as it was working perfectly

theres no resistance isthere anything that can break it was woring perfectly till i pulled to far thanks

It probably broke the spring..need new.

would this spring sit under the spool that holds the rope everything else looks intact .Is it hard to repace THANKS TO EVRYONE FOR THE HELP ON ALL THIS

rk....punch the link below. It'll take you to the BRP site. Click on engine diagrams and follow the prompts. You can get the parts breakdown of your recoil starter and have a look at what you need to do. You can get part numbers also.
