If there is a crack going through one of the magnets on a starter for a 1990 200hp Evinrude will that affect its ability to crank the engine<br />at the required RPM.

yes.<br /><br />It will affect the strength of the magnet and therefore the speed at which the starter's armature is able to turn at. electric motors are just a heap electromagnets, that when energized, pull toward the magnets, if one is weakened, then that side won't pull as hard. <br /><br />time for a new starter i think...
