Starter Problems

Hello,
Having a slight with a 1993 Merc 115hp 4 cyl. When I go to start I get a click of the solenoid and a gradual hum. I don't think its the solenoid since I am not getting a repeated click click click.
Could it be a dead spot on the starter motor??
Usually after a few tries it cranks and starts correctly.

First carefully clean all connections of battery to engine cables. It only tales a tiny bit of corrosion to cause exactly your symptoms.

If that doesn't help you may have a dead spot on the starter motor commutator.
