starter problem on 115hp mercury 74 model

today i hooked up my pos. terminal up like normal.then i hooked up my neg. terminal and my starter kicked in. my key switch was off.what is going on.it even turns over in gear. also i had no previous problems with it.

Disconnect the small wire on the starter solenoid, the one on the small post. Connect battery. Still try and turn over? You need to replace your solenoid.<br /><br />Doesn't turn over, suspect the keyswitch
