I spent all day chasing a no start issue with my boat, batteries charged up, and everything seems ok, but when I went to turn the key, nothing, not even a click. After chasing wires and attempting to check fuses, I used a screwdriver to bypass the solenoid, the starter would "spool" but would not crank the motor, am I right in assuming the starter and solenoid have gone bad?

I read a thread the other day about how much of a pain swapping the starter can be when it's tucked under the starboard riser and exauhst manifold, I've come to the realization that I will have to dissessemble these in order to get to it.

That being said, I've seen that I will need a new manifold gasket, but other than that, are there any other things that I need to look out for so I can put it back together and everything work properly?

Thanks guys,

Dan

If you can take a screw drive and cross the solenoid and the starter spins but does not engage, then the starter needs replacing.

It easier to have some 4 inch 3/8-16 threaded rod to support the manifold when reinstalling. Removal is easy enough but installing takes some help

I got the rise and the manifold off with no problems, however I cannot find the bolts that secure the starter itself. I found one 9/16 at the front of the starter and a bracket that holds the back side off the motor block, but that didn't turn it loose.

Can anyone shed some light where the other mounting bolts are for the starter???? Thanks

As in BT's pic, the other bolt is further under the starter and is shorter. Kind of hard to get at
