All that crankin you have been doing put alot of fuel mix into the engine and will need to be run out. Let it warm up before diagnosing further.

Re: starter motor not raising up?

should i leave it warming up even if the smoke seems really heavy...the tank looks like a bucket of dry-ice when i'm warming it up.

my battery isn't holding a charge so i have to go buy one now.

should i look into getting a timing light or do you think the engine will be less erratic when i get some clean fuel in it? i'm not sure if i should be messing with the valve adjustment until i'm clear about how to do it. do i need to be in the water going forward or cold?

also i got some seafoam...should i run that through now and should i just follow the instructions on the can or is there some other way to use it more effectively and specific to my problems.

my plugs are black, wet, and grimy. i'm wondering if i need to dissassemble and start figuring out how to clean the carbs and fuel line.

Re: starter motor not raising up?

it calls for SR7HS plugs.
one of them is L76V. is that ok to use?
i couldn't find the right ones at the store? is there a list somewhere of others i could use?

Re: starter motor not raising up?

it's running pretty good now. i was turning the low speed needle valve all over the place thinking it was the idle screw. i've been using the seloc manual and aparently my model is not featured too promenantly...my screw is on the outside along with my cables. i adjusted that screw until the cam follower sat just starbard of the marks on the cam..is that correct?

now the only thing needing adjustment i guess is the low speed needle valve as the slow forward is staling. can someone explain how i should set that? do i need to be in the water or will a tank work?

thanks

bump before bed.
i'm going to go get plugs tomorrow...can someone recommend a compatable plug that would suit me based on what's been detailed so far?

Re: starter motor not raising up?

You posted that it calls for an SR7HS spark plug

I wonder if that was a typo.

NGK makes a BR7HS, which is very commonly used in outboards.

Rarely stocked by NAPA but they can get them within a day, and very reasonably priced.

Idle mixture should be set to best idle IN Forward gear IN the water.

You can try setting the idle on the hose to best idle PLUS 1/4 turn out, then recheck once you launch the boat, it should be close enough to keep alive.
