Starter issues

I have a 2005 bayliner wakeboard boat I recently took it out and when I start it it has a bit of a screeching sound while turning the key like the starter is winding too long, it's a 305 5.0 mercruiser I was wondering mainly if this is the starter going bad? And where is the starter located? Do you have to take the mounts off to change it ?

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,.... Ya, it sounds like the starter is failing, or falling off the motor....

It's located way down low, starboard side, aft corner of the motor block, 'n is held on by 2 bolts, straight Up, from below...
