Starter is not working

The starter works fine for about three cranks after that it doesn't want to even try to turn the flywheel. The brushes are getting groves in them but can't find any and don't know if that is the problem. The motor is a 1959 35 horse super sea horse.

The starter works after the third time of starting it. The commutator is covered in black almost like grease. I think it is off the brushes.

Get it rebuilt and clean all the connections.
