When I try to start the motor the starter will engage for a short time, but not stay engaged long enough to start the engine. Is this the selenoid? This is a 75 hp outboard motor. merc

Re: starter does'nt stay engaged.

Welcome to Iboats. You've posted this question in the wrong forum. This is the Mercruiser Inboard/Outboard forum.

There is a forum here just for outboards:
http://forums.iboats.com/forum.php
That's the main forum page^^^

select your engine make in the correct outboard forum and post your question there. What type of engine do you have?

Re: starter does'nt stay engaged.

Sometimes that has happened to me. I was told that if the engine tries to start and reaches a certain RPM, then the starter dis-engages wether the engine starts of not.

Hope this helps. Others shold chime in also with a better grasp on what is happening.
