I used all proper gear and I must admit, it's not as bad as I had read about. Maybe because I used the proper gear?.anyways when you guys are grinding the layup/ tabbing material where the old stringers were do you grind to the original hull material? Im grinding till I can see the woven, is this proper technique? around where the motor mounts were that layup is superthick should I grind that to original woven also? and also,on my tansom I have a layer of what looks to me like CSM? do I need to grind that back to original or can I leave it and just rough it up/smooth it out?

Re: started grinding today! have a few questions!

I just ground till nice clean looking glass with no bubbles. From my researching nice clean pink glass is all that's required, not necessarily to a certain layer. I also felt like you say about the grinding, it really wasn't so bad. I think it's just all in how you look at it :).

I ten to one prefer grinding to glassing.

try a paint scrapper on the woven if you can not get under it then clean it with the grinder. on mine the roven was applied alittle dry so i could scrap up a edge and just pull the whole sheet off. you just need something thats clean and well stuck for the new stuff to bond.

I think the woven is the hull material!

Most of it is coming up ok! I just dont want to grind any deeper then I need to. The bilge area where the motor mounts used to be is really thick and I need to get all that out of there. Should be ready to build the transom this weekend maybe get it glued in.
