And you run the risk of frying your PCM if that spark doesn't jump...
Ayuh,...... Even just sparkin' outa the tower to the tiny terminal, it usually carbon tracks, 'n ruins the coil,....

Yikes! That's why I did not want to mess with that...

I found a little valve with a hose barb on it so it screws on relieves the valve. I just turned the key a couple of times, little more water than clean..so I tried to start it....put my drain on the fuel rail ...pulled another sample that looked clean. Couple more cranks and then an odd electrical crackle . Couple more cranks and now the ignition is dead- nothing comes on. I put my hand on the starter and it is cool. I checked the relay under the air breather cover which was good- how do I check the selonoid? I just replaced both on the trim pump...or is this now a starter problem..

I had some success but not resolved. I just went out to see if I could jump the selonoid...but figured I hit the key. When I turned the key everything powered up as normal and when I hit the starter it briskly turned over and it started, ran ruff a little and smoothed out. There was no water coming out of the exhaust however and expected to hear the water pump impeller growling but did not. It died shortly after. All the electric went dead again. I tried to jump the starter selonoid got nothing...power was trying to come back up, things were making noises on and off...jumped the selonoid again and it started to turn over....so does power start at the starter and then go to this selonoid? Do I have a selonoid that is failing? Does not sound like any starter issues ?

After getting through a fuel issue I'm now into an electrical issue.
2006 350 mpi mercuiser, 300 hours. I/O express cruiser
Recent service of plugs, wires, cap and roter.

Was doing some mindful cranking trying to get the motor started . Yesterday, the last crank I did, everything went dead. Nothing would turn on with the ignition. Worst thought goes to starter- but I touch it and it is cool so I don't think there is at least a motor problem.
This am I got back up with a screwdriver to see if I can jump the selonoid but tried the key first- first turn and everything comes on, started it and it started and ran to my relief, but-

water was not coming out through the exhaust but the pump was not screaming

But more important, it died. When I tried to re start a couple of times everything went dead again. Tried to jump the selonoid, nothing. With the key left on, I can hear things coming back on..fuel pump energizes..jump the terminals and it starts to turn over.
On these selonoids, once the starter is engaged, is it still needed for power to flow and run or is it just for the starter and then drops off until the key activates it again? If it is something in the starter I don't see that as working then not working to work again! And it's turns the motor over easily.

thanks, I hope it is the selonoid but sounds like more to this.

.
the starter motor and the solenoid take the armature and the brushes .
I did my vehicles and the merc 470 starter motor and I inspected it ..
also the brush holder is a bit rusted !..of the brushes lock it ..

I was able to get sll the fuel out. I found and electric fuel pump for 15 bucks that worked well. I have new fuel but I think I have a problem with the starter or starter system. Perhaps this is what killed my battery, hopefully not the new one I just put in.

After getting all the fuel out of my tank and getting some fresh fuel in it back to the ramp to test. First crank sounded good and strong pulling fuel into the system. Probably still bad fuel in the cylinders or crap in the injectors. Couple more cranks and it's starting to sputter a bit trying to start. And then with the turn of the key it makes this sound like something is shorting...maybe the selonoid is clicking/sticking or something and then the key is dead for anything out of the starter. All my accessories seem to work. I do not get beeps like normal when I turn the key to on. I bet I could, if I did not just ruin a new battery, go to the boat tomorrow and it would turn over. It did this before and the starter battery died. I thought it was just a bad battery but it was pretty new. The stater selonoid on the top I just replaced and it is not tripping. I guess at the very least I need to check the connection at the starter. Is the selonoid up top the power to the starter to engage the starter motor and the flywheel? Not a selonoid at the starter like a car starter? I would add that about 3 years ago , long story, but the bilge flooded and submerged the starter and I've been waiting for a problem ever since. This is the original starter and I had it rebuilt when we first got the boat 200 hours ago...I did also clean the terminals on both batteries. I recently had the battery selector switch panel open. No corrosion was on the battery terminals and everything visible is very clean.

i was taking it out of that engine starter motor .. inspected it ...
I was the starter engine of the water issue ?

I was inspect the electronic electrical components ....I was the connectors cleaned it ....I was the outdrive rods of the electrical motor not working .. take it out 2 yrs ago then the brushes of that motor rusted the brush holder .. cleaned it then works ...
