I have a '65 33 HP Evinrude that had pulley steering. I switched it to rotary cable and used the clevis with support tube that attaches to the transom. Has worked really well for me.

Re: Starcraft steering upgrade

My local Johnson dealer calls the support tube / clevis the antique system. He says the best and easiest is the front mount adapter ....unfortunately also twice the cost....the teleflex guy also says it is better because in thier cables there is only 4.5 " of travel. If nobody has had ( or heard of ) trouble with support tube systems....I guess thats the way to go.
