Re: Starcraft Parts

Thanks, Michael, I was thinking about going to a wrecking yard. Hoping to find the money this winter to get a heater, or maybe even 2 bought and installed.

Merry Christmas to you Ed, and everyone else here. Or in real life I'd let out a big Bah Humbug. Got a reputation to uphold. And, may everyone have a great tinny New Year.

Re: Starcraft Parts

Hi Everyone,
My nephew and I are refubishing an 1965 Starcraft 15' Bahama ? boat and are in the process of changing over the older cable and pully steering to the single Teleflex cable stystem. We purchased a new replacement cable that was suposed to fit a 1968 and later helm that used a 1/4" diameter inner cable. The seller said it would definitely work. When we received it it was 5/16" diameter and wouldn't work. The seller ok'd for us to return it. We returned it and found out the seller had it dropped shipped and the shipper would not accept the return. I found another helm on ebay called and talked to John in Minn. He said the helm would fit the 5/16" dia cable. It arrived and was found to fit only the 1/4" cable.
I have tried to cross reference inner cable sizes vs helms and have not been able to find anything. Is there anyone here who can either steer me in the right direction or answer my question.
Thanks,
Don

This response is probably totally unhelpful.........however, what I would do is sell the pieces that you have and just buy a new complete system. This one http://www.lowcostboatingstore.com/Uflex-ROTECH-Kits_c_226.html even comes with wheel for $123. Steering is just one of those things I don't mess with the individual components of.

Lake - I think see_doo_clinic (doesn't sound like a Tin Hat, does he?) is testing the pricing waters. The first set was $30 or so to a Starmadian so the seller went for the kill. Maybe he doesn't know we are bottom feeders.

I was thinking the same thing.

When I would test the waters on ebay for something I wanted to get a max price for, I would always start high and work my way down, I found that to be more lucrative. That way, you don't have listings in "completed items" that didn't sell and were for lower prices. It's harder to raise a price than lower it once something starts selling. People end up with expecations.

We're bottom feeders and proud of it!;)
