Re: Starcraft jet boat

The starcraft would be for shallow water not rapid running on my river it would be great as there are lots of sand bars and submerged logs that kill outdrives and props every year and a jet would be great and the use for the walleye run in the shallows would be awesome.

I live in Mt Vernon Wa. on the Skagit River. I see a Holiday 18-22 ft not sure which every year when the Pink Salmon Run is on. It has a Berkley jet pump and talking to the owner. He loves it says it handels well and is fairly trouble free. I saw one on Craigs list recently and phoned the owner, he ran it on the Snake and Clearwater river and said it was fine as it rides high enough to not have any hull damage. HE SAYS, Hope this helps.----- Pugetsound.

Jack I cant say that I have found anything that says the Jet drive was an option but there is a thread in this section with a phone number to Starcraft you could always call them and ask if it was an option on the boat. I do think it looks like it was well done and there is another member here with a Jet drive Holiday although I think his is 21' and has a 454 nig block chevy motor in it .

Hello I have stumbled on your page by google , because I have been searching for info on a boat that I just found and bought recently . It is a 18 foot starcraft that looks just like yours in the picture , but mine is I believe a 1970 It has factory olds 455 and a Berkley jet in it ,It is a factory stock equipped from starcraft , I know this because the boat has an engine plaque that says Berkley 455 jet on it , and on the dash by gauges it has a factory starcraft / Berkley jet plaque . These were available as an option only custom order only . mine has factory aluminum through hull exhaust ,and the jet inlet in hull was built from factory and molded as one piece with bottom portion of hull . I believe you have one of the earliest berkley jets ever used on the boat from the factory but if you can take some pictures of the inside of hull around the jet pump I can tell you for sure :D

The orange jet float 2 talks about could be an eliminator. I understand they made them in Lewiston Idaho. That's what mine is and I'd like to know a whole lot more about it than I've been able to find out.100_3818.JPG I just got it bout a month ago and trying to redo it before fishing this summer.

Before Garfield even. Where the hill gets steep there is an old sand pit right at the bottom of the hill. Only about 3 3/4 miles off the hiway. Where all the junk is. Took out about an acre cedar grove about 3 yrs ago, every one of them rotten and leaning over my power line. It seems like a lot of people see that right away. Hoping to put an orchard there now. And not even on the right side of the lake. It was up above Hope, but of the Monarchs, you had that right.

Re: Starcraft jet boat

I can't seem to get into the second (last page in this thread). Since it has a post today, 11/8/12, I am assuming it is active. And I have responded to a thread with sean matthews before. If you pm me, I can give you some info on that eliminator jet drive, and how they ended up in Starcraft. Starcraft denies having anything to do with it, and I don't think they did. A Marina in Lewiston Idaho built the jet drive, and modified different Starcraft for use in Hell's Canyon. Mine, and a few others have double hulls, which I'm not sure is the best idea in them. I have the name ,sort of, of a mechanic who worked on them new and can get used and remanned parts. He is at a different marina, but still in Lewiston. I have a rather large thread in here describing my rebuild, if you want to look.

Thanks jb, I figured it was on my end, worked fine the next day. I'm out inn the sticks with satellite internet, and if the weather isn't just right, I have problems. I'm just interested in conversing with anyone who has any knowledge on these eliminator jet drives.

Re: Starcraft jet boat

the eliminater jet pump was designed by Mike Brown and my dad's cousins were partners with him. They owned Snake River Marine in Lewiston, ID and were also a boat dealership. They used it primarily on Starcraft hulls...so that is why Starcraft doesn't know much about them...since they were installed on the boats in Lewiston... What was unique about the Eliminater Jet was it was a 3-stage pump and a low RPM/high volume pump compared to a single-stage pump high RPM/high volume pump with say a Berkeley...so it moved more water at low RPM's...thus the success of using a 350 Olds...but the 455 apps were popular in Hells Canyon...Back in 1976, the Coast Guard bought several Cabin Cruisers with twin pumps to catch salmon poachers on the Snake River...It has a water-lubricated bearing...so you need a "Y" fitting attached to a garden hose to run it out of water....just yank of the rubber hose on pump and attach "Y" and turn on hose...part is for engine cooling...part is for lubricating water bearing...it will make a HORRIBLE noise if you start engine without watering that bearing...drop me an email if you have a question...maybe I can help...we had one for 20+ years... ...Mike

Re: Starcraft jet boat

I was looking at your pic...that definitely had an Outboard and was transitioned to the pump....Our '76 22 ft. Starcraft had rubber boots over the exhaust outlets to prevent water from backflowing into exhaust...additionally, it had "S-Risers" inside the boat to further prevent water from backflowing....this was an added benefit in Ocean water...we often went salmon fishing out of Noyo Harbor (Ft. Bragg, CA)...if you do go into saltwater, just be sure to back boat on trailer down a ramp into some freshwater (so intake is underwater) and let it run for several minutes...to flush any saltwater out of the system...as I said in an earlier post today...my dad's cousins were partners with the pump designer at Snake River Marine...which is now defunct...but its an incredibly reliable and good running pump...paint it the Original International Orange...it looks great that way....in later years, they were being painted glossy red...enjoy!

Re: Starcraft jet boat

Hah, so someone finally owned up. I bought one a couple years ago, and really like it. I've talked to others who have had them. Some like them, some hate them. I understand they take a lot of abuse, tho I've been careful with mine, as parts are not plentiful. There is a Mike at Valley Marine who claims to have worked on them when they were new. He told me some of the history of them. He has some parts, and knows machine shops where he can get more. Jet Boat Performance in California is rebuilding them like a berkeley, which is not how they are at all. I will be contacting you at your e-mail in a couple days, I'm excited to finally find someone who knows something. That Mike Brown wouldn't be the same one from Sandpoint would he? I think he'd be in his early 70's, or about now.

Yes! I believe that Mike at Valley Marine is a legitimate contact for you...I think I spoke with him like 15 years ago....
