Sorry if this is in the wrong forum. I was wondering about how to redo the interior in this boat. There is a carpet with wood under neath and some of the wood is rotting. How hard will it be to rip up the floor and the carpet and then relay it? Also what type of wood and carpeting would I need? Please email me if you need any pictures.
Thanks

He is some pictures. The transom is metal so I don't really have to worry about it. The front right side (looking from the back to the front) is where there is absolute no wood. It rotted all away.

Welcome to iboats!

It's a typical Starcraft fix :)

First....your transom DOES have wood inside it ;) and it is also easy.

You are going to have to remove everything. All the screws and drill out all the rivets. Your carpet is bound for the trash bin ..... there is no saving carpet.

Look at all of the Starcraft restorations going on. Once the seats, console and side panels are out you have to strip the carpet..... expose the wood.

Locate all the screws and rivets..... drill the heads off the rivets and pull the wood panels out. You need to duplicate the wood panels with 1/2" or 3/4" exterior plywood (with at least one side finished but not necessary) DO NOT USE Pressure treated wood...it will react with the aluminum.

Seal the plywood up on both sides and all edges and re-install with aluminum pop rivets and/or stainless steel screws.

Re-install new carpet or vinyl on the decking and you are done.

Do a search here for bole holes to see if your transom needs replacement too.

Re: Starcraft 1985 FM-160 Interior Overhaul

Thank you for all the help.:)I will probably start the work late summer or early fall. If not early next year. Also does anyone know around how much it will cost? I will probably repaint the interior of the boat as well....the white shows too much dirt. Is there a special type of paint I will need? Thanks again.;)

I will probably get flames for saying this...... READ through the restoration projects. There is a wealth of information here that has been addressed.

I have been working on my 1981 for the past two weeks - the floor is not that bad to replace, but you have to remove everything above the floor, which will take most of the time. I used a grinder to take out the rivets, I also put 1/2 flooring back in vs 3/4 inch. The half inch is the stock material and is strong enough.

Have fun
