Hi, I've just bought a Mariner 55El 1987 (pretty much a yamaha so I've been told). Its on a stand in my yard so I obviously want to test it to get it running. I connected the battery - to the large bolt on top near the flywheel. On the solenoid, there was already a wire coming from the bolt which had + written on it so connected this to my battery positive. The solenoid then has a black wire coming from the bottom of it which goes in to the other wire terminals on the left side of the engine. On top of the solenoid is a brown wire which goes directly in to the harness which goes to the controls. The previous owner had split this brown wire and run another lead off it. He told me that when this is touched to earth the engine will start, however this doesn't work. What I can't understand is where the solenoid gets its positive power from to active the switch. Can someone help me please!
