Well, it has been a long time, but I was pretty sure there were 2 Orings on each side of the plate. Anyway, it appears to be leaking between the pump/reservoir and the plate. Obviously that is where new orings are needed.

BTW - I had a trim system identical to that one, or a long time, and never had a leak there. Maybe the plate or pump/reservoir O ring grooves have been damaged?

If I remember the plate had a small and larger hole. Maybe you mixed them up?

Thanks for the reply.
The plate has 4 holes in a row that line up with the 4 o-rings on the reservoir body. The hole diameters go from @ 1/4" at the 1st hole down to a pin hole on the last. And, if I remember right, the plate can only be installed one way.

The manual lists different sizes and I assume they have to be exact sizes

Thanks for the diagram.
I replaced the four o-rings #2 in Figure 5 above the plate #3.
O-rings #4,5,7 looked pretty flat. I wasn't even sure if they were o-rings because they were so flush with the top of the control valve. I guess I will replace them.
But the leak definitely appears to be above the plate #3. So I'm not feeling like #4,5,7 o-rings will solve my problem.

Did you use a torque wrench to tighten the 4 bolts equally [115in./lbs; or 9.5 ft./lbs]? The manual also suggests using Liquid neoprene (rubber) around the edges to seal them.

I did alternate while tightening the bolts but did not check torque. That would be pretty tough to do.
Using sealant might be some help. I didn't see any evidence of there being any before, though. Thanks for that info.

I came across your post. I have the same pump and motor from my 1975 mercury 85 hp engine. My motor is shot and I need to replace. Any idea what the model number for the motor only ??

Glen, ARCO used to make an aftermarket replacement motor and top of reservoir assembly. Not sure if they still do, but you might find it on fleabay. I would get the part number as best as you can from ARCO or Merc.

I finally got this pump sealed up.
I had replaced the 4 top o-rings before I knew there were 4 others on the other side. It still leaked.
When I got the additional o-rings for the other side and took it apart again I saws that 2 of the 4 that I had replaced were very deformed/damaged. I'm not sure why that was. Maybe they somehow moved out of place before I tightened things up?
Anyway, I replaced all 8 o-rings and now it doesn't leak and seems to be working fine.
I have not bleed the rams.
If it seems to be working fine do you think I still need to bleed them?

Brian, the test is to pull up on the motor with your hand. If she moves, you need to bleed the rams.

I thought I'd throw an FYI in here to hopefully help someone out.
My pump is still leaking and I have to fill it once a month or so. It is always a pain and takes forever because the fill hole is so small. A funnel is futile and makes a mess. I killed my Mighty Vac I guess because the oil is too thick for it.
I found the best way today. It turns out that the pump and hose and fitting that you screw onto the quart of oil for your lower end has the same thread. Just screw it onto your pump oil quart and then thread it into your pump's reservoir and fill. Works great!
I hope to figure out why my pump still leaks some day. I replaced the o-rings on both sides. I dunno what's next.

The top of the reservoir is screwed to the bottom, with a round rubber seal. Those can leak as well.
