We went out today .. Hung out at FGI .. And a little tubing ..

where was this at?

Is this in North Jax off of Hecksher? I like the beach area, which I've been looking for.

Yep, Fort Goerge River/ Inlet. Shallow draft ramp about 4 mins away Sisters Creek ramp about 15 mins away on the ICW. There is one at the foot of the bridge on Heckscher but not sure how good it is .

Thanks for the info! I have been by there several times on Heckscher, but never by boat. How are the tides in that area, I've heard it can get pretty shallow in some areas at times. The Admiral is completely new to boating, and gets uneasy at the thought of being close to the jetties, so I haven't been able to get her that far up the ICW yet, she tends to want to stay on the St. John's/ Black Creek. I think she's scared we're going to get carried out to sea. Also, Good looking boat you have there!

Thanks ! It does get shallow in places at low tide. But you do see larger boats in there all the time. Depending on the draw of your boat you should be fine . Just stay in the darker water and tell the Admiral that the tides coming in so there's no way you drift out to sea LOL!
Maybe we should plan a get together out there sometime ! Just hangout and shoot the breeze a bit .

My boat's not too big, it's a 17' bowrider, and I think that it only draws like 1.5ft. I'm absolutley down for planning a get together, like was said earlier in the thread it's not done enough around here. And unfortunately not many of my friends have boats of their own to join on something like this, so I'm always up for meeting new boating friends.
And the Admiral is a Tennessee girl, lived in FL for 4 years and never even saw a gator in the wild until I took her canoeing on the Santa Fe when we were dating... such a sheltered life LOL

I plan on going out this weekend weather permitting, where do you normally put in? Like you said, other than football not much going on this weekend. Next weekend is going to be a no go for me though, promised the Admiral I'd take her to the Mumford & Sons concert, Saturday and Sunday...
How should I get in touch with you? Through this thread, or PM?

Same here. I'd like to go out Saturday. If I can arrange to get my kids for Saturday, we are going to hit up the zoo (as you can pull up to the dock & walk on for free). That would be in the morning time; after that we will probably go exploring the St. John's in the afternoon.

Re: St John's River Boat Traffic????

Heard on local news the other night about the algae bloom problem on the St John's.........wondering what's happening with that? I remember how stunned we were when we went thru a fairly large patch of foam a couple of years ago and there was foam floating up the Jax Landing dock and piling up around the outdrives. Neither is something we want to be in! My wife says, "not taking the boat out until this algae thing is over" She has to step into the water in order to get on the trailer tongue to unhook the winch strap from the boat and then get back into the water again to get into our Durango. We are too darn old to have something happen to our skin due to this stuff!

Yeh, the algae did get pretty bad a few year back . I rode down to the ramp on my way home and I did not see any . It.s not really gunna hurt you but if it gets real thick you should avoid it . Here is a link with some info if your interested .
Understanding Algal Blooms
I,m gunna enjoy the river until it gets thick . I'm sure the news will hype it up just like they do everything . I think they want us all to live in :fear: to get you to tune in !

I'm looking like I'm open this weekend, weather permitting. We have a few things to do around the home front in preparation for the new little one coming, but I still plan on setting some time aside for family fun time/ boating.
Where was everyone thinking of meeting up?

We could meet up at at FGI or I could meet you at the sisters creek boat ramp . I have to put in at Ceder Point Timaquan Preserve ramp.
Directions to Cedar Point - Timucuan Ecological & Historic Preserve
My tow vehicle is my company truck so I just use the ramp which is 3 mins from my house . Insurance thing .. :grumpy:
Sure hope we all can get together and hang out a bit . Kinda cool we got so many iboats members so close in proximity ..
I gotta get a new tow rig so I can go explore more of what we have to offer down here ..

If we meet up at Sisters Creek, I will launch probably at Mayport, Maybe launch at NAS and transit. Marine Fuel at Morning Star Marina is usually more expensive than anywheres else.
