It should only sound when the key is on and the engine is not running or if there is a problem. It's the if there is a problem part you want working so don't disconnect it because it could save you lots of money on repairs. Just turn the key off when it's not running. Any accessories you have should be hooked up through the master power switch not the key switch anyway.

Thanks everyone for your input.

How can I locate it ,sounds like its somewhere under the dash?
What is this loud alarm supposed to alert me about ,low oil ?
I will muffle it then ,if I can find it ,with your help.

Why haven't I run into this alarm business before ,I
used to have a Bayliner 4 cylinder,no alarm and no problems
When did motor manufactuers start doing this ?
Thanks a bunch!

Your alarm monitors oil pressure, engine overheating, and drive lube level. Your last 3.0L only came with the alarm installed as an upgrade.

You might want to reconsider muffling the buzzer...it has to be heard even if you are at WOT. What makes you comfortable with the engine not running, and the key on, may not be heard when you really need it.

Happy boating!

For some reason the older 3.0 Mercruser motors did not require the buzzer whether it be a Bayliner , Tahoe. etc. The buzzer is to alarm engine over heat , low oil preasure, low drive oil. The alpha Carberated will alarm until you start the motor , the MPI motors will have only a brief buzzer prior to start.
