Squealing Noise When it Gets Warmed Up

Update ? I have heard some similar kinds of squeaks I originally thought was belt Squeek but then realized I heard it from the carb area and not near belts.

Could it be from the Harmonic balancer ?

is it coming form the water pump area?

Guys, it's already been established, it's not at crankshaft speed, it's half that, so suggesting things that run at crank speed is a waste of time and energy... Please, before 'firing for the hip', read the posts that come before... Get up to date with what's been discussed and eliminated.

This is a pic of the distributor shaft out of the distributor showing wear on it. Going to grease it and try again.

Noise is still there with outdrive off and the belt off. No signs of anything rubbing from harmonic balancer or hub coupler.

Now there could be some rubbing from inside bellhousing but I will have to pull to find out. Trying to eliminate the easier things 1st.

My thing about this noise is it DOES NOT squeal until engine reaches operating temp of 160?? If it was a bolt or metal to metal I would think it would be there all the time?

Something is expanding at temp and causing this would be my guess. Thanks for all the help I am checking everything I can think of without pulling engine again.

This engine has a warranty but do not want to crack a bolt until I am told so as to not void warranty.

I had a V6 that losing 500 revs off the top, but only when hot. Just after warm up, it made 4800 with ease. At fully warmed up, 4300 max. That was a bad ground between distributor body (made of aluminium) and the intake (made of cast iron). As the engine warmed the metals expanded at different rates.

Your squeal may have a similar presentation.

So where would the squeal be coming from?

UPDATE:******* I have discovered 2 little piles of shavings under rear motor mounts which appear to be coming from inside the bellhousing. Will pull bellhousing and post pics and info on what I find.

Just on a side note.... why does it look like theres a constant drip of water coming out of your lower shift cable lol

Could the roll pin not being in the gear all the way cause this? It is shiny on the end sticking out. Thinking that when the gears mesh that pin may be getting into the gear of cam??

I had Chevy car whose distributor failed. If there is any slop, hopefully you can replace internal bushing. I just went to junk yard for another chevy distributor. Marine may be $$$$$.

Well I think the shavings must have been coming from installing rear engine mount bolts? They were right up under both rear engine bolt holes.

I was just pointing out that the distributor body, being ali, expands at a different rate to the bushings and manifold. That could account for it only doing it when warm.

Ok, just seems like a louder squeal than that of a bronze bushing?

You have gas or water leak on stb side. Also, are you sure dist cap in on correctly? Is that a Bravo? Does water pump work correctly? I had distributor bushing (I guess) fail on a chevy truck years ago. Too much slop. I bought used one from junk yard.

Water is coming out of shift cable because it was raining when video was taken. It's a 5.7 merc new engine with old distributor and intake off of old engine.

SE 116 outdrive. Again no outdrive or belt and still squeals

I take it from this that you didn't grease up the distributor and test it, just kept disassembling other stuff?

Correct....2 engine builders have stopped by and both said internal

Did a little googling and found a couple other people that seamed to have exactly the same issue, and almost all cases, the recommendation was to disassemble the distributor and lube the bushing and shaft

Well, knock yerself out. Sounds like fun rebuilding a new motor. Been there and done that a few times.
