Squeal on fresh rebuild

Hey guys, I've got an 3.0 in an 1985 chaparral that was rebuilt last month and has less than 24 hours on it. When we had it out last week, after the first day it started getting harder to start and developed what sounds like a belt squeal, battery checks out fine but I did notice that it squeals until the voltage meter gets up to 14 volts, then stops. Any suggestions would help, right now my focus is on the alternator but id like some other opinions before I go throwing money at it

Loose alternator belt . . .

When the boat sits overnight, etc the morning dew forms on the belts and pulleys. Once you start the engine, the alternator is doing a lot to re-charge the battery, causing the squeal.

I would also check the battery, the hard start would mean a weak battery and the squeal is the alternator trying to charge the battery.

1. Have battery tested
2. Tighten alternator belt till it is taut, you dont want to go too tight because you can ruin the bearings from stress.
