Spun Prop and Hub Replacement

So I spun the hub on Friday...took the old prop in 14 3/4" diameter, 20 pitch. It was an old style press in hub...rubber was shredded. (apologize in advance this was the only picture I took...I wasn't thinking I might need more to demonstrate the damage - or post for help)

Guy at the marine shop said it would have to be sent off and rebuilt, or I could buy a new prop with a drop in hub. Will the flo-torq hubs not replace an old press in style? Do they not fit for some reason if you can clean out the old rubber? I'm curious because just looking at it, it seemed it would...it wasn't until this morning I started thinking about that.

I ended up buying a new prop, but probably not too late to take it back I suppose if I can just fix the old one with a replaceable hub in stead of rebuilding.

The only way to repair a pressed rubber hub is with a new rubber hub. A Flo-Torq type hub will not work with a pressed hub prop because of the prop hub design.

On the other had, you already have a new prop and you can send the old one off for repair at your leisure. Then you have a spare prop.

Thank you for the reply. My thought there was that I'm better off most likely just keeping a spare flo-torq hub over a second prop. Unless of course I mangle the entire prop somehow!

Prop shops regularly rehub props. Don't know what the current price is these days but I bet a $50 will cover it and a new prop like that maybe $300 give or take.

Try HMS HUBS. They sell hubs for about 19 to 40 bucks depending upon the prop. Then take the prop to a machine shop to have the hub pressed in for a couple of bucks. IF you happen to have a press of at least 2 ton capacity, you can press it in yourself.

Look for other of my posts describing how to do it. It is relatively simple.

Looks like I DID in fact have a replaceable hub type prop...I was duped...got my money refunded though for the prop I was sold. Thank you for the replies.
