Spray or roller for Wellwood carpet adhesive

Installing my carpet tomorrow on my deck. It's wide open flat except for 16" up the walls so should be pretty simple ( I hope) About 7x7

I could roll it with a paint roller or use my never used HF Spray gun Which would be kinda fun

What do you recommend?

Any tips besides laying it all out perfect before I start?

If you roll it have a few different naps and spare rollers they start leaving lumpy spots which will show in your carpet And some react to the glue and come apart or melt. Spraying is the way I have done it for decades buy a harbor freight pressure pot paint gun for automotive paints thin your adhesive if you can’t get a mediocre pattern without thinning the jug might tell you what to use. If you buy the warrantee you can return it for a new one when your done you dont even have to attempt to clean it
work areas that you can handle have a formica roller a hand full of plastic trowels to work into corners and to cut edges out against with a razor knife. Be in a well ventilated area. Might even be a good idea to use a respirator mask.
spray both sides let them tack up but not dry re coat if necc

if it’s a large are pre fit and do a mock up install before putting glue down you can trim large excess areas down a little to make it easier and use masking tape as a guide by taping alignment pieces wear work gloves so you can put a lot of pressure on it without getting rug burns roll them all with your linoleum roller more glue isn’t always better test your parts being covered to make sure the adhesive will stick ive seen some that required roughing them up to get better adhesion of course make sure there clean. Adjust your spray pattern to prevent over spray crank up the pressure to get a uniform coat and clean your air horn before it’s plugged up.

Not knowing what your putting the carpet on or what your main use of the boat is I wonder if you wouldn't be served better by using snaps. Just got through using Marine mat for one of my boats. Reasoning is , gluing to fiberglass will make it a mess when the carpet gives out and has to be replaced. The boat is used for chartering so the aft deck takes a beating and if I want to clean the deck , carpet and air it out all I do is unsnap it. Also I have 2 mats for the deck which cuts down on wear and tear over the years and should more than double the life expectancy of the Marine Mat. A game changer for sure , besides making the boat look like a million bucks the cushioning is so much easier on your feet over the course of 8 hours of standing , most of the time , on the deck. The snaps vs glue is one of the reasons I went with Marine Mat vs SeaDek along with the installer advice and recommendation as he sells both products .

My vote- short nap roller w/extras on hand in case the first one comes apart (they do that!).

I would NOT spray. You'll be dinking around trying to figure out how to get it to flow properly and when/if you get that figured out, I'll be all done - without worrying about how I'm going to clean that gun.
