sportjet 175 serial numbers?? help

can anyone tell me why on the mercury sport jet 175 engines when ordering parts even though they are identical when ordering parts like harnesses or a computer there is two different part numbers what would happen if i used the wrong ecm/computer? i have asked many people with no really good answer any help will be appreciated

Moving to Merc & Mariner outboard forum. All the sport jets are, are outboard powerheads sit on a jet pump inside the boat.

as far as the ecm #'s being different there is a different timimg curve in the jets...the harness's accomodate the change along with the limiters i guess
