Hello Everybody,
This is my first post here on iboats, but I'm a long-time reader/lurker.
So, here's my situation - I'm going to look at a Sportcraft 222 offshore this weekend. It has a 485 Mercruiser, and the seller says that the boat is a 1982 model. The owner also says that the boots and hydraulic lines on the outdrive have been replaced.
I've searched quite a bit online, mostly on iboats, and not found a lot of information about these boats. I figured that the resto section would probably be the best place to post, as you guys are the most likely to have seen the problems associated with these boats, and to be able tell me what I need to know before making the purchase.
So, my question is this - Can you guys provide any kind of information, whether specific or general, about this boat? Are there any particular problems with this boat or brand that I should be looking for? It's a 4+ hour drive for me, so I'd like to have all my bases covered when I get there.
I've seen that the 485 has a love/hate relationship with its owners - that is, they either love it or hate it. Is this engine/drive combo something that I should steer clear of? It's a Great Lakes boat, so salt shouldn't be an issue, if that makes a difference. I've had lots and lots of outboards, but never an I/O.
I'm really hoping to put the pictures of the new boat up as more of a "refit" than a "total restore". Thanks in advance for any information that you can provide.
